2016 Cannes Lion Festival: Equal Parts Creativity, Data, Technology & Passion

Last week, I had the good fortune to attend the annual Cannes Creative and Media Festival. It is a unique gathering where advertising and marketing leaders from agencies, clients, media and technology companies come together to celebrate the very best work our industry produces from around the world. 
Publicis Media sponsored a number of events under the theme transFORM, including a panel moderated by Steve King and featured Vanessa Bayer, Aidy Bryant and Cecily Strong (Saturday Night Live), Ryan Seacrest, Bob Pittman (CEO of iHeartMedia), Margaret Stewart (Facebook), Martin Ford (author and software entrepreneur), Thomas Friedman (Pulitzer Prize-winning author) and Mark Thompson (New York Times Company). All panelists echoed a main theme that we all know too well: accelerated transformation has been institutionalized, and the agencies and brands that are best equipped to adapt—in terms of talent, technology, operations and delivery—will survive and thrive.
Connectivity is changing brand engagement. And many brands are playing catch-up, striving to move fast enough to keep up the pace with their customers. Thomas Friedman summed up these exceptional times by offering a great quote: “you can dance in a hurricane as long as you stand in the eye.”
Beyond this exceptional panel, ideas discussed and shared during Cannes included:

And then there were of course the Cannes Lion winners which ranged from ads to apps and causes to community.
