In the film industry, an enticing trailer on TV just isn’t going to cut it anymore.  People have grown to expect experiences—before and after the film’s release.  Through these experiences, fans become the greatest advertisers for films by generating social buzz.  Trends in digital advertising for movie makers include:

Google Search Media Ads – An expandable, top-sponsored video paid search ad for movie trailers.  20th Century Fox tested Media Ads for Mr. Popper’s Penguins, producing a 475% higher click-through rate (CTR) than traditional ads because people desired the digital viewing experience from the search engine results page:

Facebook Pages – Movie makers are using Facebook Pages to create interactive experiences that include meeting characters, entering contests, playing games, answering polls, sending digital gifts, and even signing online wedding books.  Each movie Fan Page has a unique spin to draw in fans by the millions:

Promoted Twitter Trends – With a Promoted Trend, an advertiser can pay to be in the top trending topics on Twitter.com.  Twitter floats these clearly-marked promotions to the top of the trends list.  Movie makers have embraced Promoted Trends to start conversations about their movies.  Promoted Trends encourage fans to tweet, generating more buzz:
